“Conjures some of the outlaw spirit of Steve Earle….steeped in classic imagery….anyone with a passing interest in roots music will understand, appreciate and enjoy….” (Fatea Magazine)
“Timeless, fusing elements of bluegrass, country and folk. Not every day you hear so many instruments played – guitar, banjo, mandolin, double bass, sparse percussion and even a jew’s harp. Lots of strings..I like that!!” (Tom Robinson, BBC Radio 6)
This rockingly awesome 4 piece sold out the Tower for us last September, and such was the reaction of you, the audience, that you demanded that we get them back again – so here we go!!
“Absolutely fabulous! One of the best shows I’ve ever been to. Simply brilliant!” (Viv Chatfield – audience member)
Check out the review of last year’s show here:
Porchlight Smoker will be celebrating the 2015 release of their 3rd album “Water Into Sand”, which along with their live performances show off the band’s multi-national songwriting talents, with Scott Smith, from Wichita, Kansas, bringing his extensive knowledge of the American folk tradition, Scotsman Steve Bell’s Celtic folk influence, and Kent-born Fred Gregory’s very English identity all combining to form the band’s unique and exciting sound.
“Water Into Sand is an absolute gem” (Bob Harris, BBC Radio 2)
“An authentic Americana album that sits neatly in your collection while looking to wider horizons” (Folk Radio.Co.Uk)
“UK Americana at its best..a truly great CD that gets better and better with repeated listening” (Americana UK)
Porchlight Smoker are:
Scott Smith – Guitar, lapsteel, banjo, harmonica, mandolin, clarinet and vocals
Steve Bell – Banjo, guitar, harmonica, mandolin and vocals
Fred Gregory – Guitar, mandolin and vocals
Scott Warman – Stand-up bass and vocals
Multi-instrumentalists, soaring 4 way harmonies, and a rail-road worn doghouse bass that means these boys are guaranteed to send you home with a smile on your face!
“Bluegrass of the highest calibre, with soaring harmonies and foot-stomping rhythm!” (Americana UK)
Often described as “the real deal”, every Porchlight Smoker show is different and no song is ever performed quite the same way twice! They play a varied and at times virtuoso repertoire that mixes self-penned works with covers made very much their own. A range of instruments, including banjo, guitar, lapsteel, stand-up bass and mandolin, even clarinet, accompany the bands trademark four part vocal harmonies.
