We’re delighted to present a fabulous joint headline double bill of Spiral Earth Best Live Act nominees The Goat Roper Rodeo Band and Mercury-Prize nominated Michele Stodart of indie chart sensations The Magic Numbers.
“Cosmic Country Blues” with The Goat Roper Rodeo Band….
We first caught up with this terrific three piece at last year’s Maverick Festival, where we were faintly surprised to see that they’d been given a headline spot on the AMAUK Peacock stage – suffice to say once they’d finished their set we knew exactly why they were accorded that honour, blowing everyone away with their infectious energy and songs of pure musical joy. Our immediate response after the show was to buy their CD straight away, and then someone who hadn’t seen them asked us to describe them to which we responded – “The Everly Brothers on speed!!”.
With just two old guitars, an upright bass and a bucket full of aching harmony, The Goat Roper Rodeo Band are out there preaching ‘country blues’, like you’ve never heard!
The Goat Ropers are: Tom (Double Bass / Vocals), Jim (Lead Guitar / Vocals) and Sam (Rhythm Guitar / Vocals).
With an awe inspiring ‘live show’ that’s guaranteed to raise the roof, swinging from the most tender heartfelt paean to the blues, to the highest full throttle, barn storming, juke joint boogie stompers, theirs is a show that’s wowing audiences across the land.
There’s a hint of Gram, a sniff of Dylan and a twist of Waylon’s blues … Simply put, it’s exactly what it says on the tin…they look great, sound great and they’ve got a bunch of absolutely brilliant songs … and that’s the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth…amen!!
Nominated for “Best UK Live Act” by Spiral Earth
Following a hugely successful 2014 UK summer festival tour with invited performances at the ‘Cambridge Folk Festival’, ‘The Y Not Festival’ and a headline slot on the AMUK stage at the ‘Maverick’ Americana Festival, to name a few, the lads were straight back out on the road playing support to the platinum selling ‘Magic Numbers’ on their ‘Alias’ album UK & Ireland tour.
… as well as filling up their diary with 2015 festival dates , the band have recently begun working on the next ‘Goat Roper Rodeo Band’ album in London with ‘Romeo Stodart’ acting as producer …. 2015 is looking good for The Goat Roper Rodeo Band.
Check out the video clip below of the Goat Roper boys and you’ll see why we HAD to get them down to the Tower for you!
Michele Stodart – “A southern drenched journey into Americana country blues…” (The Guardian)
And how doubly lucky are we?! Joint-headlining we have the wonderful Michele Stodart!
Michele is a solo artist as well as bassist, vocalist and co-songwriter with much loved, Mercury Prize-nominated band The Magic Numbers, who recently released their fourth album, Alias, in 2014. The album, Alias, was well received by critics, with several calling it their finest to date and received **** in Q and Uncut. Over the Summer, the band supported Neil Young & Crazy Horse and then toured the UK, Ireland and continental Europe.
In 2012, Michele released an album of her own songs, Wide Eyed Crossing, a southern-drenched journey into Americana country blues. In support of the record, Michele and band toured with Villagers, Alabama Shakes, Duke Special, Slow Club. Gomez and Ben Otwell. She is currently touring with the Magic Numbers and working on a follow-up solo album to be released this year.
If you haven’t heard Michele’s solo material then we strongly advise that you do – take a listen to the YouTube link below and prepare to be blown away!
This is going to be one helluva show! We’d advise getting your tickets early for this one as it will almost certainly sell out quickly…..
What The Critics Are Saying….
“Wonderfully executed acoustic country blues with two guitars, a double bass and plaintive striking harmonies, and a musical landscape driven by old timey sensibilities …there’s a lot to like about the Goat Roper Rodeo Band.” (R2 Magazine)
“Man, how can some so young be so sad….and so perfect!” (Ian Dunlop – Gram Parsons / Flying Burrito Bros).
“The Goat Ropers are the real deal! I was blown away when I first saw them play and heard them harmonise, I wanted desperately to join in. If there’s any justice in this crazy world, they’ll soon be a household name and we’ll all be keeping it country with them” (Romeo Stodart- The Magic Numbers).
“Even without her lucky Numbers, Michele Stodart’s voice is suggestive of quiet resignation and regret, bearing traces of folk, country and soul – you can tell she grew up listening to and loving Patsy Cline. There’s a kick to it too…” (The Guardian)
“To say that Michele’s songs are ‘rich’ is rather an understatement – it has become the norm for the majority of people at her gigs to leave either speechless or (and more often the case) crying…Michele’s solo music is truly breath-taking..” (For Folk’s Sake)
