Yes, you ARE reading this correctly! We have a Grammy Award nominee coming to play for us in the Tower – again!!
We were incredibly privileged last year that this amazing musician chose us to be part of his UK tour, and even more made up when Andrew wrote in our guest book – “Thanks for the best gig in the UK”!! And of course that is thanks to all you wonderful people who made the show a complete sell out (with a long waiting list!) – so we’re going to do it all again!
And who can forget the special guest appearance of Andrew’s friend, and chart star Lucy Spraggan jumping up to do a number together?!! Check out the reviews of that show here:
Everyone was, of course, well and truly blown away by the mighty talents of one of New Orlean’s finest. Various reviewers were fulsome in their praise of this prodigiously talented singer / songwriter – words such as “spellbinding”, “compelling”, “mesmeric talent”, and “unmatched voice” peppering their articles. No wonder then that his latest album “The Moorings” was Grammy Nominated!
Andrew Duhon is a New Orleans native, raised in the country’s most unique and mysterious city. A city that accepts all walks of life with a curiosity and forgiveness that has found its way into his wholly American songwriting. A Folk and Blues influenced singer/songwriter, Duhon shares his love of American History, it’s struggles, triumphs, and impulses through his music. Whether its love that crosses colour lines, a family challenged by life’s unexpected turns or the woeful tale of a city left to drown, Duhon brings his audience into the most intimate of spaces through his storytelling.
Andrew began writing in high school spurred on by a fascination with the literary works of Emerson and Thoreau as well as poets Walt Whitman and Robert Frost. During the summer of ’04 Andrew worked and lived at an old retreat house on the outskirts of the French Quarter. It was then that he fell in love with the character of New Orleans. A year later hurricane Katrina left the city and his former French Quarter home crippled. The blues that he had found in the French Quarter rang true as he continued to write. The honesty in Andrew Duhon’s songwriting is a result of the self-realization that he has found through his writing. His music and performances reflect his personal perspective in a very real way, and his voice leaves no gaps in the experience as he sings with a conviction all too befitting of his raw, personal writings.
He has released three albums to date including EP, “Dreaming When You Leave”, debut album, “Songs I Wrote Before I Knew You”, and now “The Moorings”. “Songs” and “Moorings” were produced by Grammy award winning producer/engineer, Trina Shoemaker (Sheryl Crow, Emmylou Harris, Queens of the Stone Age, Whiskeytown) and “Dreaming” by Grammy winning producer, John Snyder (Dave Brubeck, Etta James, Junior Wells, Ornette Coleman, Dizzy Gillespie, Clarence Gatemouth Brown). Andrew has toured throughout the United States and UK, and continues to tour, write, and record.
What The Critics Are Saying…
“This record is genius. Not kidding. It is unbelievably great. This young man has it. The singing, the playing, the production…it’s all there. Strikingly good. The world needs to hear this record.” – George Howard, former president of Rykodisc.
“Another world-class voice is heard from Louisiana, another soulful, mesmerizing singer who writes emotional songs with impact and heart. Andrew Duhon is a troubadour for the next generation, a story-teller for his generation. Measured in the blues with the gift of narrative, Andrew’s songs will not only make you think, they will make you sing along, days later. This a young artist to watch, and to hear, as soon as you can find a way. “
– John Snyder, ArtistHouseMusic.com.
” with his cards to his chest and his heart on his sleeve, Andrew brings us his stories, in a voice as full as any I’ve heard, breathing life and truth into his songs” – Trina Shoemaker, Grammy Award Winning producer and engineer.
