We can’t tell you just how excited and honoured we are to be able to announce that we are hosting a show for the legendary Joe Mullins and his Radio Ramblers! And not just that – it will be the bands ONLY UK date! It’s a long story, but suffice to say we are very lucky to be able to bring this one-off show to the Portsmouth area. We were lucky enough to catch Joe and the boys last year at the Grand ‘Ole Opry on our first ever visit to Nashville. And what started out as a casual e-mail conversation has now ended up with the band flying into the UK to play for us, then flying onto Europe for other dates. Thanks to our Lloyd for getting the ball rolling, and then to Holly and Joe himself for figuring out how they could fit it together and make it work!
The Radio Ramblers are: Joe Mullins (banjo /vocals)), Mike Terry (mandolin / vocals), Jason Barie (fiddle), Duane Sparks (guitar / vocals), and Randy Barnes (double bass).
Mullins has earned 5 IBMA Awards and 3 SPBGMA Awards.
Debuted on the historic Grand Ole Opry July 2013 with regular guest appearances since.
IBMA’s Emerging Artists of the Year (2012).
Album, Another Day From Life on Billboard’s Top 15 Best Selling Albums (10/14).
National Bluegrass Survey’s Top 15 Albums (2/15-present).
Featured Performers of Bluegrass nights at the Ryman in Nashville, TN (2011 & 2012).
Song, “Now The Summer’s Gone” on SiriusXM Bluegrass Junction’s Most Played Tracks (10/14-present).
What The Grand ‘Ole Opry say about Joe Mullins & The Radio Ramblers:
Joe Mullins & The Radio Ramblers have an energetic mix of quality Bluegrass and Gospel music, a professional presentation, inventive instrumental work, a wide variety of vocal arrangements including a cappella quartets and tasteful, down-home humour. Their professionalism and successful, heavily played recordings have kept them in demand with a national audience. JMRR have been seen by thousands of fans across the country at nearly every national bluegrass event.
Joe Mullins is a Southwestern Ohio native who has been a recognisable banjo player, vocalist and radio broadcaster for 30 years. Joe toured and recorded as a founding member of the band The Traditional Grass until 1995, when he purchased WBZI Radio in Xenia, Ohio. He recorded and performed with the band Longview, earning Song of the Year and Recorded Event of the Year awards from the IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association) in the late 1990s.
He won an Instrumental Recording of the Year award in 2001 from the IBMA for his banjo work on Rebel Records’ Knee Deep In Bluegrass. Joe was also one of many artists in 2006 sharing Album of the Year honors for Celebration of Life, on Skaggs Family Records.
Joe owns a network of radio stations in Ohio, adding three other stations over the past decade. He was a 2010 SPBGMA nominee for Broadcaster and Promoter of the Year and WBZI was nominated for Bluegrass Radio Station of the Year. He is SPBGMA’s 2011 Broadcaster of the Year.
What Music City Roots say about Joe Mullins & The Radio Ramblers:
Joe Mullins is a classic character who could slip through a time machine to about 1961 and move around comfortably. And he’s be among the coolest cats there in his Ohio home, fronting a bluegrass band and owning AM radio stations.
“Musically, he is one of the top bluegrass acts in the business along with his band the Radio Ramblers” (Billboard)
We’d love to give Joe and the boys a sell-out South Coast welcome, so if you can join us we’d really appreciate it. And don’t forget to bring along your friends too 🙂
