Here at Square Roots, we’re currently doing a jig of unadulterated joy, as we can now confirm a show in our beautiful venue for a North American artist we have admired for several years now, and an artist we’ve been desperate to get down to Portsmouth for just as long!
And what’s more, it’s going to be one of our intimate “house” shows in the gorgeous upstairs room of the Tower – these shows are up close and personal, a real chance to hear songs as they were meant to be heard, and really are very special occasions. For this reason, we limit numbers to 40 people only and as expected these shows sell out very quickly, so we’d always advise getting your tickets early.
We were very lucky to have caught Leeroy at Maverick Festival a few years ago – a stunning acoustic-based set on one of the smaller stages was then followed by him and his band blowing the roof off the main Barn stage. And we then travelled to Brighton to see him play a week later – and he proved it was no fluke by doing exactly the same to the Prince Albert! We still fondly recall those shows as some of the best we’ve seen.
Raised in Victoria, BC, Leeroy Stagger is already well on his way to joining the likes of John Hiatt, Ryan Adams and Steve Earle as an ambassador for North American roots rock n roll.
“There has always been a swagger about Stagger, a slightly cocky self-confidence that’s actually quite endearing….and there’s an open and honest feel to his unaffected voice. This is arguably his best work yet.”
Leeroy Stagger continues to prove he is one of Canada’s most prolific and talented songwriters. Over the years, Leeroy Stagger has shared the stage with plenty of talented musicians, including The Pixies, Los Lobos, Tegan and Sara, Ron Sexsmith, Joel Plaskett and George Thorogood and his songs have received placement on the hit TV shows Greys Anatomy, Sons Of Anarchy, Degrassi and Heartland. He has garnered an international fan base after relentless touring both home and abroad.
Leeroy Stagger’s new album, “Dream It All Away” is the sound of a songwriter entering his 12th year of relentless recording, touring, discovering and documenting the good, bad, happy and sad – the true joy and chore of the troubadour.
“From start to finish, it feels like Stagger put every ounce of himself into each melody and each couplet. It’s sad but it’s honest, which is something lacking from music and life these days.”
