We’ve had many magic moments over the years at our Square Roots shows – but more often than not, when asked, people (and ourselves too!) will hark back to the time when somehow we managed to persuade multiple IBMA award winners, and Grand Ole Opry regulars Joe Mullins & The Radio Ramblers to fly into the UK on their way back from Belgium and play just one date for us before flying home to the States.
That show lives long in the memory – the magic of 5 world class bluegrass musicians up close in the historic confines of the Square Tower was a site to behold. The show sold out very very quickly, and the audience were literally blown away by this amazing band. Here are a few comments from from our audience that night….
“Just home from seeing Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers at the Square Tower, Old Portsmouth. Two words, absolutely stunning! If you ever get the chance to see them, take it, don’t hesitate, just do it, they’re some of the finest musicians and nicest people you’ll ever have the pleasure of meeting. Huge thanks to Ken Brown & his Square Roots Promotions team for putting them on. Bluegrass really doesn’t get much better than these guys!” (David Rozzell)
“I’ve never heard or seen a more enthusiastic audience and the atmosphere was fantastic , thanks for another great night!” (Viv Chatfield)
And once again, three years on from that magical evening, Joe Mullins and The Radio Ramblers will be coming back to Portsmouth to play 2 dates at the Square Tower, and these will be the bands ONLY shows in England!! Tickets will fly out for these 2 shows – if you didn’t come along to that amazing night in 2016, then check one of the videos below and see and hear for yourself!
“What an honour for Square Roots – for a band of this calibre to come and play their only English dates with us is just mind blowing! (Ken Brown, Square Roots Promotions)
