“How Come You Sleep” is a breath of fresh indie folk warmth that finds a rejuvenated Baker sounding stronger and more inspired than ever!” (Atwood Magazine)
with special guest Emilia Tarrant
“Emerging as a hotly tipped powerhouse bursting into the pop world!” (Killing Moon)
We’re delighted to be teaming up with Portsmouth’s premier talent agency Big Hug Management to bring you this fabulous double bill in a brand new venue – here at Square Roots we’ve been massive fans of Michael Baker for a few years now (some of you may remember when he supported Yola at our Xmas show a few years ago!), and his last two albums have been nothing short of stunning. No surprises that he is picking up a lot of national radio airplay – we think he’s a major star in the making. And as if that were not enough, the equally talented Emilia Tarrant will be appearing as special guest, and she too is destined for the top!
We’re also very pleased to be trying out a new venue, for us! There is full seating available for everyone (and plenty of space too if you want to maintain distances), we will be operating a bar (although we can’t serve alcohol), and we really think you’ll love this place too.
Michael is a twice Arts Council UK supported Anglo-French singer/songwriter who has travelled the world playing his music to anyone and everyone who will listen. With over 50 Catalogue releases and three Studio Albums released, this prolific Artist has received support from BBC Introducing London, Tom Robinson, Amazing Radio, The Independent, Clash, Mahogany and Atwood Magazine amongst a host of others.
“Gorgeous! A singer/songwriter that would give Ben Howard a run for his money!” (Tom Robinson)
Michael has played at The Great Escape festival Brighton twice, performed at The Ned, Groucho Club and White City House as well as the Inaugural Black Deer Festival and supported Sarah Jarosz at Union Chapel. He was also confirmed for last years postponed Glastonbury.
“Emilia is a huge talent!” (Breaking More Waves)
Emilia Tarrant is a 19-year-old singer songwriter from Winchester, who started playing the piano at the age of 12 and has been writing songs ever since. She says: ‘songwriting is like writing a diary for me; each song comes from the heart and is a way for me to escape the daily stresses of life’. Having recently completed her music and media courses, Emilia is now focusing on her music career and has recently been co-writing with other songwriters, including James Walsh from Starsailor, Joshua “Joe” Keogh from Amber Run and Jonathan Quarmby (Tom Walker, Lewis Capaldi). Honeymoon Phase is the Lead single and title track from the forthcoming EP of the same name. Emilia was also booked for cancelled Glastonbury 2020 & Jade Bird support for Soho House, played at The Houses Of Parliament for UK Music & The CIC Industry awards, The Ned, Groucho, White City House & Victorious Festival.
