We are absolutely thrilled to be able to organise a charity show for the wonderful children’s cancer charity www.HistioUK.org who are doing some fabulous work in the field of promoting and funding scientific research into uncovering not only the causes of all histolytic diseases, which include Langerhan’s Cell Histiocytosis and Haemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis, but also ensuring early diagnosis, effective treatment and a cure. The charity aims to support parents and their families as well as raise public and professional awareness of histolytic disorders.
We were originally alerted to the charity by 2 of Square Roots regular supporters, who have been directly affected by the disease. Their grandson was diagnosed with LCH, and having talked to them about how it has affected their grandson, and indeed all of the families lives, we immediately jumped at the chance to at least try and lend a helping hand the best way we could.
The artists that you see above, from the local music scene to the national Americana scene, have responded brilliantly by volunteering their services ABSOLUTELY FREE. In a lot of cases this means travelling many miles to play for this brilliant cause. To be honest, we have been totally knocked out by the response and support shown not just by the acts playing, but by those who we just couldn’t fit on the bill. There were so many more musicians who also voiced their support – we thank you so much, and hope that you all understand that we can only fit in so many on the day.
We must also thank the awesome Steve and Julia Hender who have been superbly generous, and are donating the use of the Square Tower for free, for the whole day. Top banana!
There will be collection buckets around during both the daytime and evening concerts and of course please feel free to donate as much or as little as you can afford. However, the evening show will be ticketed, limited to 100 people only, and 100% of the ticket sales monies will go directly to the charity.
Please help to support our wonderful artists by purchasing their CD’s!
Please help to support our venue too by buying lots of food and drink!
As you can see from the line up, there really is such a wonderful array of musical talent on show, both during the daytime and evening shows.
The Courtiers – Transatlantic foot-stomping folk!
Dan Ogus – A rare solo show from the singer / songwriter!
Joe Houghton-Gisby – Young Portsmouth-based Blues influenced guitarist and singer!

Wood, Wire & Words – Family band in true good home bluegrass fashion!

For those of you purchasing tickets for the evening show – there will no doubt be lots of surprises in store, so be prepared for anything to happen (musically of course)!
This will really be a unique one-off event of it’s kind. So many great musicians playing in one place on one day for an amazing charity. We really hope that you’ll be able to come along and support the day.
